We are privileged to work alongside many organisations and groups at our school. In this area of our website, we aim to both acknowledge their fantastic contributions and to make you aware of the diverse opportunities made available to our children.
Dementia Friendly Communities is a programme which facilitates the creation of dementia-friendly communities across the UK. Everyone, from governments and health boards to the local corner shop and hairdresser, share part of the responsibility for ensuring that people with dementia feel understood, valued and able to contribute to their community.
A third of young people know someone living with dementia. With over two million people developing dementia in the next ten years, most people will know someone affected by the condition in their lifetime.
We want every young person to understand what it's like to live with dementia.
Our lesson plans contribute towards key aspects of the national curriculum, enabling pupils to gain knowledge and understanding linked to PSHE & Citizenship. We will embed them within a spiral curriculum or as part of an enrichment day, the activities will also support work towards British Values, SMSC and Personal Development, behaviour and welfare.
Our resources look at
Understanding the brain
Dementia in the family and the role of carers
Dementia in the community
We will be holding assemblies for our children, where we will invite Dementia Action Friends to talk to children and help them understand this illnes more deeply.
Through the charity collections for Star Foundation we have raised some money for each site as we get back 50% of all profits from the unwanted items. Our current balance is:
Heathfields Infant School £106.79
Wilnecote Junior School £152.59
It is likely that this money will be used to buy some much needed P.E equipment.
During the year, our Street Wardens regularly visit our school to discuss topics of importance within our community. They attend assemblies and speak to individual classes. Topics can range from how to keep safe on the internet to picking up and recycling litter in our community.
