Computing

Computing Intent

A child leaving KS1 will be able to recognise and label different part of the devices we use in school. They will be able to quickly and efficiently access devices and store them safely.   They will have a strong understanding of e-safety and be able to use IT for simple communication. Children will be able to understand what an algorithm is through unplugged and plugged activities. Children will have been exposed to a full computing curriculum that covers computer science, information technology and digital literacy. E-safety and acceptable usage of devices and online applications will be discussed through-out.

A child leaving KS2 will have gained the skills to equip them for the KS3 and life beyond. Children will learn that there is an input and an output but also what happens in between. They will do this by being exposed to all 3 areas of the national curriculum: computer science, information technology and digital literacy. Children will be able to recognise the prose and cons of different uses in IT and be able to independently make a choice of which device to use for their desired outcome. E-safety and acceptable usage of devices and online applications will be discussed through-out.

Computing Implementation

All children will receive 1 hour per week of computing lessons where an ‘I do, we do, you do’ approach will be used to deliver all lessons. Well planned sequences of lessons will ensure that children build up on prior skills and knowledge learnt in previous year groups with a focus made to recapping knowledge from each previous term’s and years learning. Computing will often be linked to ‘real life' situations and programs to be used will be transferable to the real world. Children in all groups will have equal opportunities to access a range of devices during every lesson.

Computing Impact

As technology begins to take over our world we aim to equip children to be prepared for KS3 and life beyond. Children will have access to a wide range of devices that they can confidently use to support their learning.
