First Aid

In 2019, the Department for Education released the document Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education which details that primary students, by the end of KS2, should know:

  • How to make a clear and efficient call to emergency services if necessary.
  • Concepts of basic first-aid, for example dealing with common injuries, including head injuries.

Therefore, this is only relevant at the Juniors, during our forest days, pupils in KS2 will follow the St Johns Ambulance pathway for first aid to ensure that they are prepared for later life but also for their immediate future should any first aid concerns arise in their lives.

This will consist of an hour and a half session at least once termly during each year group's forest days following their own medium term plan to build up these vital skills progressively each term. Please continue to follow this page to see how the children's skills build up as they progress through their KS2 journey.

Year 3:

During the Autumn term, year 3 have learnt about why first aid is important, how to treat a head injury and how to call for help using 999 or 111.

During the Spring term, year 3 have revisited how to treat a head injury and understand the steps that they need to take in order to treat someone that has suffered from a head injury even when they are on their own with no grown-ups!
