As part of the Year 2 reading curriculum, children should build up a repertoire of poems that have been learnt by heart.

As part of your English learning this week we would like you to explore poetry.

Today, make some time to explore some different poems. Think about how they are written. How are they similar? How are they different? Which words and phrases do you like best? Why?

You might already have some poetry books at home or even a favourite poet but if you are unsure, here are some of our recommendations (all for which can be found online).

- Please Mrs Butler By Allan Ahlberg

- Welly Boots By Micheal Rosen

-  Rat race by John Agard

-The Owl and the Pussy Cat by Edward Lear

- How Doth the Little Crocodile By Lewis Carroll

You can also find other poems for children using this link;
