Maths

This week we would have been exploring money in our Maths lessons.

In Year 2 we learn to:

  • recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p); combine amounts to make a particular value
  • find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of money
  • solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change

Today can you explore money word problems?

What can you remember so far about money?

We have had a look at different combinations of money, adding amounts of money and giving/finding change. Let’s have a look at solving simple problems about money. You might need to add or you might need to subtract. Read the question carefully.

Open the 'word problems' document. Which chilli challenge will you choose? Mild, Hot or Scorching? Can you answer these questions on your computer/iPad/tablet? You do not need to print any documents.

Challenge: Can you explore the Year 1 and Year 2 mastery questions about money?
