# Maths

This week we would have been exploring place value in our Maths lessons.

In Year 2 we learn to:

• Count in steps of 2, 3 and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number, forward and backward.
• Recognise the place value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens and ones).
• Compare and order numbers from 0 up to 100; use <, > and = signs.
• Read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and words.
• Use place value and number facts to solve problems.

Today can you use your place value and number facts to solve problems?

Let’s have a go at sequencing numbers. We will need our number facts for our 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. Let’s sing our times tables songs first!

Pick a number and count in steps of 2, 3, 5 or 10 from this number.

e.g.

I’ve picked the number 8 and I’m going to count in steps of 2 (that means I add 2 every time).

8, 10, 12, 14, 16

Challenge: Can you count in steps of 2 from any number? This time I’ve picked the number 11 even though it’s not in my 2 times tables.

11, 13, 15, 17, 19

Challenge: Have a look at the ‘reasoning practice’ powerpoint. Can you use your reasoning and problem solving to have a go at these questions?

SATS Targeted Practise Workbook:

Have a go at the ‘counting in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10’ section of your workbook (pages 16-19).
