# Maths

This week we would have been exploring measurement in our Maths lessons.

In Year 2 we learn to:

• Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit, using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels
• Compare and order lengths, mass, volume/capacity and record the results using >, < and =

Today can you explore length/height?

We usually measure length/height in centimeters (cm) or meters (m). Let’s measure the length/height of some things around the house. You can use any object to help you measure! You might measure using your hands, pencils, steps it takes to walk or a ruler if you have one!

Today’s task: Estimate the length/height of some objects around your house or in the garden and write them down! When you are ready, measure the objects using your preferred method. Were you close to your estimations? Can you order your items from shortest to longest?

Challenge: Imagine your hand is 10cm. How many cm would your objects be?
