Achieving Together with PRIDE

# Maths

This week we would have been exploring money in our Maths lessons.

In Year 2 we learn to:

• recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p); combine amounts to make a particular value
• find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of money
• solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change

Today can you explore the different coins?

What coins do you know? Can you order them?

See if you have any change in the house. Can you identify the correct coin?

Explore the coin reveal powerpoint. Can you identify the coins? Which need the pounds (£) symbol and which need a pence (p) symbol. Have a go at writing some different amounts using the £ and p sign.

REMEMBER: the £ sign comes before the number and the p sign comes after the number.

Challenge: Can you research some prices of household items online and write down their prices? E.g. loaf of bread 70p.
