Achieving Together with PRIDE

# Maths

This week we would have been exploring money in our Maths lessons.

In Year 2 we learn to:

• recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p); combine amounts to make a particular value
• find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of money
• solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change

Today can you explore combining amounts of money?

What coins do you know? What notes do you know? Can you order them from least to greatest amount?

Explore the ‘how much is in my piggy bank powerpoint’. Can you add up the coins to find the total? Have a go at adding your own amounts of money together. Can you use your addition methods to help you?

Try drawing your tens and ones or using the column method!

E.g.

27p + 16p = Challenge: Use the internet to research some items you would buy if you had pocket money. How much would your items cost altogether?
