Maths

This week we would have been exploring money in our Maths lessons.

In Year 2 we learn to:

  • recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p); combine amounts to make a particular value
  • find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of money
  • solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change

Today can you explore different combinations of coins?

What coins do you know? What notes do you know? Can you order them from least to greatest amount?

Have a go at making different amounts of money. How many ways can you make this amount?

E.g.

20p can be made lots of different ways:

20p

10p+10p

10p+5p+5

What other ways can you think of?

Challenge: Can you explore combinations of amounts over £1?
