Welcome to Year 4!

We have an exciting year ahead filled with engaging learning experiences across the curriculum. In English, we will explore a range of inspiring texts, including Tar Beach and The Selfish Giant, which will help develop our reading, writing and discussion skills.

In History, we will broaden our understanding of the past by exploring how children's lives have changed throughout the Roman, Tudor and Victorian periods. We will also investigate why Britain has been such a challenging country to invade throughout history and learn about the people who have shaped our nation.

Our creative skills will flourish in Design and Technology as we design and create beautiful pavilion sculptures. In Computing, we will enhance our digital skills through audio production projects and data logging, developing our confidence with technology and problem-solving.

We will have an outdoor learning day each term which will be emailed out and put on Arbour. With so many exciting topics to discover and new skills to develop, there is lots to look forward to in Year 4!

P.E.

Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.

Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit on their designated P.E. days. This should consist of a white or house-coloured T-shirt, blue or black shorts or leggings, and blue or black tracksuit bottoms and a sweatshirt for colder weather, along with suitable trainers. For health and safety reasons, all children must have long hair tied back and earrings removed before coming to school. We are unable to cover earrings with plasters, so please ensure these are removed at home before your child arrives at school.

Expectations and Homework

We encourage all children to read at least four times each week and to complete their TT Rock Stars homework regularly. This should take approximately 15 minutes per week and will help children develop their fluency, confidence and recall of multiplication facts in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check at the end of Year 4. Children are expected to bring their reading book and reading diary to school every day so that reading can be supported both at home and in school. In addition, children will receive a maths homework booklet each half-term, with a clear completion date provided. The activities will be closely linked to the maths units being taught in school, helping to reinforce and consolidate learning at home.

At our school, we strive to demonstrate our PRIDE values in everything we do, from our behaviour at playtimes and lunchtimes to the quality of our work and the way we conduct ourselves around the school. Children who consistently show our PRIDE values are rewarded with PRIDE points, with the winning house celebrated during our Friday assembly. We also recognise and celebrate a wide range of achievements, including Pen Licences, Daily PRIDE Certificates, Weekly Year Group PRIDE Certificates and the prestigious Headteacher's Award. These celebrations help to encourage children to take pride in everything they do.
