Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a wonderful week in school. The children have enjoyed the sunshine and experiencing more learning outdoors.
We have seen fabulous learning from;
Reception; looking at the numbers 11,12,13,14. Exploring and observing the caterpillars and guessing what and what they will look like in the future.
Year 1; looking at the past tense, planning their own version of Little Red Riding Hood and making a moving car in design and technology.
Year 2; have been looking at fractions 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, and 3/4 of objects and numbers. Writing their own version of Tiddler, along with seeing how exercise affects the human body (they have been completing a daily mile run.
New starters; we have a couple of new families over the last few weeks, and we have been informed that we have 58 children eager and ready to join us in September 2026.
Staffing Update
We are pleased to share that Miss Ricketts will be returning to Heathfields at the start of June as her maternity leave comes to an end. She will be job sharing Rosen Class with Mrs Hilton, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming her back.
As Miss Ricketts returns, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Jones, who has done a fantastic job supporting Rosen Class during this time. We are extremely grateful for her dedication and the positive contribution she has made to our school community.
As a school, we will be marking Mrs Jones’ departure with a farewell on Friday 22nd May.
Parent Survey
Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to complete our recent parent experience survey. We are delighted that the feedback received has been overwhelmingly positive. It was particularly encouraging to see that parents feel welcome in our school and confident in the quality of teaching their child receives.
We value your feedback and will review comments and see how we might adopt some of the suggestions, such as sharing attainment levels throughout the year to share how your child is progressing.
Our School ‘PRIDE’ Values
We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of our school values. These values are the golden thread that drive excellence and shape the positive culture at Wilnecote Junior Academy.
We believe in achieving together and taking PRIDE in everything we do:
- Perseverance
- Respect
- Inquisitiveness
- Determination
- Enthusiasm
Donations; you have been missing the wheelbarrow with the library books in. Unfortunately, we are running low on books and seeking some further donations. If you have any unwanted books in good quality condition, please drop them off at the office.
Summer Term Reminder (from previous week)
As we approach the Summer Term, we kindly ask for your support in helping children stay healthy and comfortable during the warmer weather.
Water Bottles
Please ensure that your child brings a filled water bottle to school every day. Staying hydrated is especially important as temperatures rise, and having easy access to water helps children keep focused and energised throughout the day.
Sun Protection
On sunny days, please send your child to school wearing sun cream. If they may need to reapply it during the school day, you are welcome to provide a labelled bottle of sun cream for them to use. Please note that children must be able to apply their own sun cream.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our pupils safe and comfortable this term.
Are you switched on to your child’s online privacy? (from previous week)
At Wilnecote Junior Academy, we teach children about staying safe online as part of our curriculum. But online safety doesn’t stop at the school gate. If you’re a parent or carer of a child aged 4-11, there’s a new campaign that could make a real difference to their safety online.
Every time children use apps, games or websites, information is collected about them - often without them realising. This can include their location, habits and even their mood.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has launched a free campaign called Switched on to privacy to help parents and carers of children aged 4–11 start these conversations. It’s built around three simple steps:
- Chat with your child about online privacy.
- Choose actively what personal information to share.
- Check the settings whenever your child uses a new device or app.
Just like we teach children to cross the road safely, we can help them build smart habits online. Small conversations now can make a big difference as your child grows up.
Find free tips, videos and conversation starters at ico.org.uk/switch-on-to-privacy/?utm_source=toolkit&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sotp.
Parking Reminder for Parents and Carers (from previous week)
To help keep our children safe and to ensure the smooth running of drop-off and pick-up times, we kindly remind all parents and carers to park safely and responsibly around the school site. Please support us by following the guidance below:
- Avoid parking on yellow zig-zag lines or in any restricted areas.
- Do not park across or block local residents’ driveways, even for a short time.
- Keep pedestrian crossings and footpaths clear at all times to support safe access.
- Use designated parking areas wherever possible, and avoid stopping in the middle of the road.
- Drive slowly and stay highly alert, especially during busy periods when children may be harder to see.
- Only use the staff car park with prior permission, as this area must remain accessible and safe for those working onsite.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us maintain a safe environment for our pupils and a respectful relationship with our neighbours.
