Wilnecote Weekly Update - 19th June 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the weeks fly by, our school continues to thrive with learning and excitement around every corner. We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who joined us for the Year 4 class assemblies this week. It was a real pleasure to hear the children speak so thoughtfully about the male role models who inspire and support them in their daily lives.

This week’s special shout out goes to all the children who attended the athletics competition yesterday. They represented the school brilliantly, showing great determination, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout. We are incredibly proud of them all, and finishing 2nd as a school is a fantastic achievement!

Please remember that school will be closed on Thursday for polling day, but we are back open on Friday as normal.

Warmer Weather

With the warmer weather, we encourage children to have sunscreen applied before arriving at school and to bring a named hat to wear outdoors. Children are also welcome to bring sunscreen to apply themselves during the day; please ensure it is clearly labelled with their name.

Trust Survey

The Trust is undertaking a Trust wide survey of our children, prioritising how happy they feel at school and their sense of belonging within their setting and as part of the Fierté Family. The short survey (over a period of 2 weeks starting 22/06/2026) will be undertaken by known adults where children are younger (EYFS and KS1) and as individuals (KS2). The 15 questions have been consulted upon with Trust Pupil Leaders and representatives from our Trust Wellbeing Forum. Therefore, the questions are child-centered and pupil-friendly. We have also sought guidance from our Trust Inclusion Practitioner to enable every child to access the questions. The results that we capture will inform us on what we need to do, to either continue with what is working well, or action next steps so every child has the happy school life they deserve and a strong sense of purpose and belonging at school.

Fierte Festival

On Monday 29th June, we will be holding a fun and imaginative non-uniform day to launch our Fierte Festival! Children and staff are invited to dress as a word linked to creativity and display their chosen word on a card, badge or sticker etc. We are encouraging everyone to be as inventive as possible, with ideas such as flamboyant, dazzling, radiant, shimmering, unique or sparkling. We look forward to seeing a fantastic range of creative ideas shared across the school!

Year 6 Workshop

We are pleased to invite Year 6 parents to a workshop led by the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), focused on supporting their child(ren) as they transition to high school. The session will take place at 9:00am on Tuesday 23rd June and will offer practical advice, reassurance and strategies to help children navigate this important change with confidence. Parents will gain valuable insights into the emotional and social challenges their children may face, along with helpful guidance on supporting their wellbeing at home. We look forward to welcoming you.

Staffing Changes

We would like to take this opportunity to share that Mrs Dormand will be leaving us at the end of the academic year. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, care and hard work she has shown during her time at Wilnecote Juniors, and for the positive impact she has had on our school community. We wish Mrs Dormand every success and happiness in her next chapter and know she will be greatly missed by both staff and pupils alike. We are also pleased to be welcoming Mrs Rudge, who will be joining us in September from Heathfields Infant School.
